She also holds a visiting professorship at Lund University in Sweden,  named after Lise Meitner, a physicist  known for her crucial role in the discovery of nuclear fission. Her research focuses on food science and technology,  and specifically on the structure and functionality of food proteins and a systemic approach to sustainable food processing. She is actively involved in multidisciplinary research aimed at transforming food systems.  She has published about 360 refereed publications in high impact journals,  she is the editor of Critical reviews in food science and nutrition,  food hydrocolloids and sustainable food proteins.  She is actively involved in entrepreneurship education,  and a strong advocate for research excellence with impact.

Title of presentation : Designing Future Food Research for a Sustainable Planet
The impact of agri-food systems on the environment and global society is undeniable. Research alone is insufficient; we must actively reshape policies, practices, and attitudes. As food science research becomes increasingly critical, it must deliver innovative solutions for zero-emission circular economies. We must consider the social, economic, and cultural implications of our work from the outset. This talk explores the evolving role of the researcher in achieving this transformation. It reflects on how research can promote excellence, transfer vital knowledge and technology, and address the demands of EU legislation, consumer preferences, and the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals. Ultimately, how can we contribute to building more sustainable, resilient, and accessible food systems to combat climate change, dietary imbalances, waste, and malnutrition?
