Carlos Gomez-Corona is Senior Director Global Consumer Research – Savory, and globally responsible for Sensory at DSM-Firmenich Taste division. He is leading efforts to move research beyond “WEIRD” (Western, Educated, Industrialized, Rich, Democratic) samples by focusing on underrepresented populations. He addresses gaps in the literature on low-income groups, non-Western cultures, and vulnerable populations to improve insights into consumer behavior. His research highlights that sensory science often overlooks the impact of poverty and cultural differences, both of which are critical to understanding global consumer choices.
